Irriweb is the Italian reference portal for the best water management. IrriWeb® is an interactive system providing extremely precise information on how and when to irrigate a specific crop in a specific location in Italy. The information can be accessed via WEB or via SMS.

Started in 1990 and ported on the WEB in 1994, IrriWeb® is a 3.000 users IT platform which support agricultural operators in managing & saving water resources. In 2002 it has been extended with GIS tools & SMS interface and it is currently the reference application for irrigation management in Italy. The ASP service provides users (farmers & extensionists) with a real-time irrigation scheduling: day-by-day information on how much and when to irrigate the farm’s crops. Actual data are gathered on daily basis in the DB server from several sources (meteo, farms, agro-data networks). All the information are organized on a Geo grid allowing users to choose data for his own area.

Irrigation scheduling is built by means of an irrigation model which has been developed by a national Research body and is validated locally in each area. The irrigation model is running on the DB server, in this way every time the user clicks for information the coolest data are always taken into account. Irrigation scheduling is broadcasted via SMS to registered users and it is accessible on the Web in text or graphic format (charts).

The experience of integrating Geo, Meteo and users’ field data is reported.
